This is the first lesson in the series: How to Deal with Uncertainty
By Poornima Vijayashanker
One of the most common feelings when we transition from a period where we had everything mapped out for us to a new experience or challenge is uncertainty.
As innovators, we want to focus and make progress, but too often we are held back by fears, doubts, and a general feeling of uneasiness that can eventually lead to us to feel anxiety.
I know I’ve gone through this period multiple times myself. The first was when I transitioned from college into my first engineering role, and the second was when I went from being an engineer to an entrepreneur.
During the first period of uncertainty, I battled it out on my own, and it wasn’t pretty! The second time around, I wizened up and realized that I needed to get help. The coach I hired gave me some wonderful strategies to help me through it.
You might also be going through a similar period in your life or might have a friend who is going through it as well. To help you out, I’ve invited my good friend, Maria Molfino, who is a Stanford trained behavior designer and life coach to teach us how to deal with uncertainty.
In this lesson Maria and will share 4 simple words to remember and practice when the uncertainty causes you to feel discomfort.
During this period of uncertainty it’s also natural to feel like everyone else has their sh*t together, except YOU. I know I’ve felt that way. In the next lesson, Maria will share with us the one thing we must do to feel less alone. So stayed tuned!
In this lesson we talked a little bit about meditation, which is a great technique to help you deal with uncertainty. If you’ve never tried it or just aren’t sure how to begin then check out Maria’s free Meditation 101 Course here.
