I’ve previously mentioned some simple steps to building a support system. This support system is composed of people who eventually become your best friends, and the confidantes that you have when you’re just stuck and need a gentle nudge, hug, or shoulder to cry on. They’re there to support you, and don’t make you feel bad about it. You of course feel comfortable turning to them, and knowing that it’s OK to get stuck from time-to-time.

There’s another group of supporters we need, these are folks we’re looking to help us when it comes to long term professional development and growth. We call them mentors, and most of us know that a good mentor can play a pivotal role in advancing ourselves and our careers. However, the process of finding and initiating the mentorship can be challenging. Read my recent post on Entrepreneur.com for suggestions on how you can go about reaching out to mentors and building yourself a professional support system.

If you have more success strategies, I’d love to know what they are, so please share them in the comments below.
