There’s a lot of fear in following up.
When you follow up with someone who is busy, they may respond and remark that they’re annoyed. What you hear is: “Please stop emailing me.” Or, “Don’t call us, we’ll call you.”
But busyness doesn’t always mean someone is disinterested.
It just means they are busy.
And in cases where someone owes you something, you end feeling bad.
Because a fear of following up is really a fear of bothering people and receiving a rejection.
Rejection isn’t necessarily a bad thing because now you receive a clear answer. Clarity helps you move forward. Confusion stalls you.
If you don’t follow up, then you’ll never know.
You’re in limbo.
Isn’t that even worse?
If you don’t follow up, you’ll regret and wonder what could have been.
If you don’t follow up, you don’t get the fundamental thing you are requesting: someone’s time and attention.
But when you follow up, you receive an answer.
There are three possible answers: yes, no, maybe so.
A maybe so means follow up again.
A no, may mean not right now. Other times, it means they aren’t in a position to give you what you want. It’s up to you to decide if you want to to follow up again.
Which brings us to yes, a chance to move forward!
All that following up paid off and you finally get what you want 😉
