How to Champion Ideas That Move People to Action

This interview is taken from Karen Catlin’s and my latest book: Present! A Techie’s Guide to Public Speaking.

Oftentimes the voices that appear to be missing in public discourse are those of people of color, women, and youth.

Where does this absence stem from?

Partially, it’s the fear of being misunderstood, which may relate to a lack of confidence in a vibrant speaking presence. Another factor could be the lack of access to platforms where these voices feel they can be heard in a major way. A significant and commonly overlooked aspect is  the inability to concisely craft a message.

Having answers to important mission-related questions and channeling your passion in your communication will ensure that you end your presentation, meeting, or pitch with a kaboom.

I recently sat down to interview with Holley Murchison, who is the founder of Oratory Glory, a communication agency that works with companies, young leaders, and creatives of color in the arts, education, and technology spaces.

Holley believes that everyone can be a confident communicator by being thoughtful and intentional about his/her messaging and purpose. Holley helps individuals and groups to answer the five core questions that lead to a path of successfully sharing and pitching ideas.

In this interview you’ll learn:

What do you want people to remember? Champion ideas, move people. How do you want to make them feel, and what do you want them to do next?
